One of the many, many reasons I’ve been quiet on the blog is I’ve been writing a fair amount of stuff for print lately, which sadly doesn’t always lend itself well to easy linking on here aside from “go buy the magazine.” However, today the lovely chaps at Official Xbox Magazine UK saw fit to put my Ten Things to do in Minecraft piece that I wrote for issue 88 of the magazine up online for everyone to see. So here’s my link to it for your perusal and then you can get nervous if I ever invite you into my game in the future.

I’m very pleased with how this turned out in the end – one of the things that you don’t often take into consideration when going into games writing is that it’s not always about you saying things with acres of prose or long flowing sentences. In fact, it’s quite the opposite and being able to say something succinctly and within a very strict wordcount is a huge benefit, and given the layout of this article on the page (which isn’t something that comes across as well online) I had a tight budget of words. With a game like Minecraft – which is itself a massive sandbox of possibility and creativity – being able to explain some of the things you can do in such a short space was a challenge I very much enjoyed and I’m very pleased at how it turned out in the end – with no end of thanks to the great editors over at OXM for helping to shave off the rough edges into the final piece that appeared.

Anyway, enough rambling from me – here’s the link to the piece and thanks again to all the Official Xbox Magazine team.
